The Pirate King

Canberra’s resident anime analyst returns for GAMMA.CON 2015! After his intriguing panel in 2014 ‘Better Than They Have Any Right To Be’ John Samuel ‘The Pirate King of Burley Griffin’ returns for his new panel ‘Names to Know in Anime!’

John has been an anime fan since the early 90s and blogging about it for nearly 10 years. He is a life member of the Japanese Anime Fans of Western Australia (JAFWA) and presented panels at SwanCon, AussieCon III, Continuum and of course GAMMA.CON. The topic for this year’s panel has grown out of a series of panels on tropes in anime and TV.

The Grass Cutting Sword. The Great Dragon of the Shrine of the Ocean. The Phoenix of the Temple of the Wind. The Lion of Light.
The names of anime characters can sometimes carry incredible amounts of meaning, warn you about a character’s importance to the story or provide an early insight into their powers and abilities (all of the examples above will be appearing in the panel, so come along if you want to find out which anime and characters they belong to).

Join John on Saturday the 23rd for a survey of at least some of the names to know in anime and be better prepared for the next time you see them come around. Before then, you should check out his bloghttps://piratesobg.wordpress.com/ and follow him on twitter @arcadiagt5!
