Lauren Marshalls

Lauren Marshall is a Perth-based illustrator working within the comic industry and the creator of the self-published title Lana Leuka. Other published works include The Phantom (Frew), Talgard (Gestalt), Killeroo (OzComics) and XCT (Comics2Movies). Her works include both traditional and digital work, partial to strong bold line work and vibrant colours

Jin Chan Yum Wai

Jin is an Australian/Mauritian manga creator & publisher, and game developer. He is the founder of the fast growing international manga publisher SHRINE COMICS, which currently publishes 17 series from creators from around the world, which also includes the manga series he created HIGH SCHOOL ROMANCE and XERO: THE KING OF THIEVES. Jin is also an official letterer for Viz and Shonen Jump working on the series ME & ROBOCO which is being adapted into a TV anime. In videogames Jin is the Creative Director for VANIMALS working on the indie survival game UNDYING!

Tim McEwen

Tim McEwen is a veteran of the Australian comics scene and has been making comics since the 1980s, most notably co-creating the award-winning and internationally distributed Greener Pastures. Tim helped establish the Comics Arts Awards of Australia and is a cartoonist, illustrator, storyboarder, and educator. In 2018 he received the Platinum Ledger Award for contributions to the Australian comics scene for his support and advocacy and has been nominated and shortlisted numerous times for other awards, including three times for the Australian Cartoonists’ Association’s Stanley Award for Best Comic Book Artist. Greener Pastures — which currently has a 400+ page graphic novel revival in the works — follows the adventures, trials, tribulations, and sometimes the bowel movements, of Trevor Bovis – bull-turned-social-activist-turned-sellout-lawyer.

Marcelo Baez

Marcelo is a professional freelance illustrator, comics artist and creative facilitator. He’s worked for Marvel, Apple, Time Inc, Event Cinemas, Frew publishing, and many more. Artist for the upcoming “Rise of the Mythix” by number one bestselling author Anh Do. Poster artist for the official Marvel/Upperdeck Avengers limited edition print set and official Marvel Ukiyo-E Wolverine print. Cover artist for the Phantom and various overseas publishers. Artist for Marvel Super Hero Squad “Hulk saves the Day” book. Marcelo loves vampires, cats and his beautiful wife (not in that order). He’ll be running a drawing workshop at GAMMA.CON “Drawing Monsters an Zombies”.

Mathew Lin

Mathew Lin’s passion for drawing and comics began at an early age, now an experienced graphic designer and illustrator, he has illustrated over 50 picture novels, graphic novels, and books for Australian publishers Blake, Hachette, Lagunna Bay, Macmillan, McGraw-Hill and Trillium. Matt was one of the illustrators of The Super Australian’s Anthology, he’s illustrated 50 sketch cards for Upper Deck 2018 Fleer Ultra X-Men Trading Cards and spent 10 weeks as a background extra on Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. A huge reader of Manga and watcher of Animé, Matt’s other interests include medieval fighting, West African dance and drumming, swimming in the sea and pretending to be a samurai with his bokken. Matt also runs drawing workshops at libraries and schools and will be running a workshop at GAMMA.CON “Drawing Monsters and Zombies”

Sas Milledge

Sas Milledge is a Melbourne-based artist. She has done design, comic, and illustration work for DC Comics, Boom! Studios, Simon & Schuster, BlinkInk, and Passion Pictures amongst others. Her debut graphic novel, ‘Mamo’ was released in April 2022. She loves character-driven stories and illustrating the boundaries between the human and natural world. Matthew Lin Manga (Animé) Drawing Techniques – Creating Illusions

Join Matt in this fun, step-by-step workshop on manga (animé) techniques of creating illusions! We’ll be focusing on: expressions of movement via pinching & pulling and speed lines, power and strength, focus within an illustration. As well as 3 dimension and depth through the use of line weight. Suitable for beginners and intermediate levels.

Tim McEwen Tim McEwen — traversing Greener Pastures

Meet award winning cartoonist Tim McEwen. A veteran of the Australian comics’ scene since the 1980s, he co-created the award-winning and internationally distributed comic Greener Pastures which follows the trials, tribulations, and sometimes the bowel movements, of Trevor Bovis – bull-turned-social-activist-turned-sell out-lawyer. Tim’s also a story boarder, illustrator and educator. He’s directed the Comic Arts Awards of Australia and been an Australian Cartoonists’ Association committee member.

Lauren Marshall Dissecting an Art Style

This panel will include discussions around drawing anatomy and poses, inking techniques and elevating your sequential artwork. Lauren will discuss her art style, performing practical methods through live drawing for the audience to follow along with.

Alcohol Based Markers are tricky to use, this panel will go over the essentials for using the medium, including paper types, liner inks, blending and highlighting. Bring along a small set of similar grouped colours/greyscale and a small paper pad to practice along!

Jin Chan Yum Wai How to get your manga (or comic) published

Are you a manga/comic creator and want to know how to go about getting your comic published? Whether it’s finding a publisher or self-publishing, Jin Chan Yum Wai founder of the manga publisher SHRINE COMICS will walk you through the do’s and don’ts of getting your works published. Jin will also be doing portfolio reviews after the workshop for one-on-one advice!

Sas Milledge Environment in Comics and Animation (AKA Why You Should Learn to Draw Backgrounds)

Sas Milledge hosts a panel discussing environmental design in comics and animation, and why even if you hate drawing them, backgrounds are vital storytelling tools. Sas works as a comic artist and designer for animation, her work includes her original graphic novel ‘Mamo’ (2021), and DC’s ‘The Lost Carnival’ (2020).
